Seven neighborhood organizations hosted a candidate meet and greet at the New Harvest Park community center. It was a great opportunity to meet a lot of new people. Thank you to everyone who made the event a huge success.

We had a great turnout at the Expo Center’s meet and greet Thursday evening. We had a steady stream of interested voters asking questions about the most pressing issues facing Knox County and my plan to address those issues. Thank you to all my volunteers who helped make this event a huge success for the Piper campaign.

The Norwood Kiwanis Club had a great turn out for their Second District candidate debate. Hubert Smith was our moderator for the event and he did a great job. Thank you to the over one dozen Piper supports who helped fill the banquet room at Ramsey’s Cafeteria on Central Ave Pike. I answered questions on creating a citizen driven government, the closing of the East Towne Mall polling location, land use and education.

Thank you to everyone for joining us at Chesapeake’s for my County Commission fundraiser. It was great to see so much support for my campaign. I want to extend a special thank you to my host committee: Sid Gilreath, Dennis Francis, Tammy Kaousias, Maureen Bosch, Randy Nichols, Jenny Hines and Tom Jester. These folks have been a tremendous source of support not only financially but they've made calls to friends in the North Knoxville to ask for their vote and they keep my energy level high. Thank you!

Thank you to T Blackman on 850AM for having me on his radio show this morning. We had great questions from callers about schools, crime, growing our economy and creating a citizen driven government. One caller had a great suggestion of holding quarterly town hall meetings when I get elected to keep people informed and maintain open lines of communication for public involvement. I also told the caller that my website will remain up and active, the “PIPE UP” section will remain open for comments and my email, phone and mailing addresses will be listed and easily accessible.

Christmas came a few days early for my neighbor's 5th grade class! I had a great time delivering hats, gloves, puzzles, games, footballs, school supplies and fun treats to Ms. Jessica McWilliam's 5th graders. Her students had a great time ripping open boxes of presents and were extremely appreciative. I am so thankful for this opportunity to give back! Thank you to Rick and Judith Mallory, Jim Jennings, Brenda Palmer and Jim Clement at Dick’s Sporting Goods for helping us make the holiday season special for these students.

Thank you to my dedicated army of volunteers for putting up our large 4'x8' signs during the holidays. We have multiple signs on Broadway, Old Broadway and Washington Pike. Email me at Cortney@PiperforCommission.com if you would like a large sign for your large lot.

Need a yard sign? Send me an email at Cortney@PiperforCommission.com and we will make sure you get one. Feel free to grab an extra one for your neighbor like my friends on Cecil Ave. As you turn up Cecil from Broadway Cortney Piper signs line the street! Thank you to Lou Smith and the Cecil Ave Neighborhood Watch for supporting my campaign for County Commission. I challenge everyone to make their street look as supportive as Cecil Ave! Email me a picture of your street and we will put it up on the website.

My billboard for County Commission is across from the Kmart shopping center at the Broadway/I-640 intersection. Drive by and take a look.

We were warmly received by hundreds of Knoxvilians in attendance at the Downtown, Fountain City and Halls Christmas Parades. Thank you to Gregg and Erin Lonas for building a beautiful float! I hope everyone is enjoying a safe and happy holiday season.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Fountain City Town Hall candidate Forum last week. Folks from all over North Knoxville and Knox County listened to me and my opponent debate on the tough challenges facing Knox County. Chuck Bolus was sick and unable to attend. I spoke to my expertise and demonstrated leadership in the three top issues facing Knox County that allow me to more effectively serve the Second District. The top three issues Ive heard from you are: creating a citizen drive government, improving education and protecting our right to clean water. My experience as a local professional, community volunteer and college athlete demonstrates my ability to deliver results. I have the strength of character to stand up to special interests and the grace and finesse to deliver 9 other votes to direct resources to our community.

It was tremendous honor for me to participate in the Veteran’s day parade this year. My father is a combat veteran from Vietnam, my grandfather is a combat veteran from WWII and I have many friends and neighbors serving overseas. Thank you to the Post 2 American Legion for organizing the parade. Thank you to Gregg, Erin, Madeline and Phil Lonas for creating a fantastic float.

Thank you to Bev and Katy Gooch and Bob and Chris Wolfenbarger for hosting a meet and greet for me in the Alice Bell neighborhood. The Gooches’ and Wolfenbargers’ neighbors had questions for me about the role County Commission plays in decisions that affect their lives and stormwater runoff. I shared with guests how my experience at the TN Clean Water Network demonstrates by ability to not only bring our government back to the people but it also gives me a level of expertise on land use issues. Land use impacts every aspect of our lives from schools, to clean water, to property, traffic and overall quality of life.

This marked my tenth meeting as chairperson of the city’s Better Building Board. The Better Building Board acts as the last line of defense to encourage property owners to bring their buildings up to code. The Board issues repair or demolition orders on condemned and blighted properties throughout the city. We also certify houses as blighted for the Homemakers program that is designed to encourage homeownership in our neighborhoods. Our goal is to protect the health and safety of our community by enforcing building and lot code compliance.
Thank you to everyone who organized Unity Day, it was a huge success!

Over 11,000 people participated in Race for the Cure this weekend. Breast cancer has affected my family in many different ways, participating in Race for the Cure is one small action I take to bring us closer to a cure. I finished 11th in my age group, 140th over all with a time of 25:03.25. Thank you to the UT archeologists for welcoming me as part of their race team. Click here for more information on the Susan G. Komen Foundation .

Nearly 200 Democrats celebrated Unity Day at Beaver Brook County Club. Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Gray Sasser joined us for this special event. Past party chairs, Mildred Buffler and Wade Till, and Bill Goode, mainstay of the Saturday Morning Club were recognized for their years of service to the party. Democrat candidates from around Knox County presented remarks on their candidacy. Click here to read Cortney's remarks.
Thank you to everyone who organized Unity Day, it was a huge success!

Thank you to Hubert Smith for inviting me to co-host with him on Sunday (10/7). We had a flurry of callers asking about Chancellor Fansler's opinion on the Sunshine Trial and how I will bring government back to the people of Knox County. Thank you to Jonathan Wimmer for coming to a previous Hubert Smith show with me to show his support. Click here to listen to the show: www.talkradiotoday.com
